The Top 18 have a lot to live up to after last week's stellar premiere
of
So You Think You Can Dance. The show got off to a blazing hot start
with one amazing performance after another, 8 out of 10 which had Mary
Murphy screaming at the top of her lungs. Will the remaining nine
couples be able to match the magic of week one? Who will have Mary
Murphy screaming this week? (Better question -- who won't have Mary
Murphy screaming this week?) Watch along with me while we see who
navigates the dangerous disco waters and see who's left standing and
stranded after a week of waltzes, jives, and jazz.
Seeing that all the cool kids and the judges of

Adam Shankman (Shanks) tweeted this afternoon that "tonight's show is going to blow the fans minds!" So excited! Sounds like there are some surprises in store for us tonight!
Tonight's judges will be Lil C, Mary, and Nigel. We will miss the
Shanks, but look forward to what the "King of Krump" has to say...Lil
C' talks like a mediocre poetry student, which amuses us to no end. Cat
Deeley calls out Mary Murphy about the botox comment, and she's already
a bit shrieky. But I agree with Cat, the botox comment made me love
Mary even more. Nigel says the dancers should show their strengths, not
their weakness tonight. Wow Nigel, that's very helpful advice...I'm
sure everyone steps on stage saying, I'm going to bring my weakness
tonight!
Wow,
that is one gigantic ruffle on Miss Deeley. We thought it was just
eating her shoulder, but it turns out it's devouring her entire left
side. Down with ravenous ruffles!
Randi & Evan
Dance: Jive
Choreographer: Louis Van Amstel
Song: Shake A Tail Feather The first couple of the night -- hooray -- is
Randi and Evan.
Apparently Randi is a doting speaker-phone talking to Dog mamma. Evan
is a gear head and loves old cars. Whoa, that makes Evan hotter -- how
is that possible? A suave Broadway boy who can help me change my oil? Too hot.
Randi
and Evan will be dancing the Jive tonight, choreographed by Louis Van
Amstel. I bet these two bouncy cuties kill the jive and I certainly hope
they kill the jive! Because, these two are my favorites and seriously, they are adorable.
The
two are dancing to "Shake A Tail Feather" - great costumes, energy, and
definitely FUN! These guys make whatever they do look so easy, like I
might just be able to get up and jive with them -- truly the sign of
wonderful dancers. Wow, Evan just did a split jump over Randi's
head--guess being short does come in handy! Wow, Evan is really
bringing it tonight, his lines look amazing and his kicks are crisp and staccato. Plus, did we mention,
it's fun!!
Wow, another great dance to start off the night,
there is no way Mary Murphy is not screaming for that!! Lil C says they
started out the box with a bang, and that Evan looks too smooth in the jive. (Huh?
This is not a krumping routine my friend.) Oh, so much Fun. How many
times can we say this innocuous word tonight? Mary Murphy is
surprisingly, not screaming, but we agree on the fact that Randi and
Evan look like they're built for the jive. Wowza, Mary is saying the
dance wasn't that strong, color me completely shocked! Nigel congratulates Louis
Van Amstel and stealing him from DWTS. Nigel says he thought Evan would
be better than he was at the jive and then he bounces up and down in a
way that makes me very worried for Nigel's knees. He says they're
terrific as a couple, but let him down a little tonight. Not me, I
loved it. Loved every minute of it.
So the Mary Murphy Scream Count thus far: 0, shockingly
Melissa and Ade
Dance: Jazz
Choreographer: Sonya Tayeh
Song: 24 Hours (remix) by Terry Poison
Melissa and Ade
are next -- yay, all my favorites are up first! The secrets they share? Melissa and her sister are married to brothers,
and Ade's full name is more complicated to say than Kuponos!
Melissa
and
Ade will be dancing a jazz piece by Sonya Tayeh. The dance is going
to be about a high maintenance woman. It's a song about tough love and
Melissa and Ade are finding the physicality of the routine difficult to
deal with. There is an easy joke in there about Melissa being the old
lady of the competition, but I'm not going to make it...because this
routine looks brutal, but beautiful.
They'll
be dancing to 24 Hours by Terry Poison --
wow Melissa comes out riding Ade, like some sort of sexy soul-sucking
succubus. The two
are in leggings and wow...who knew neon pink and liquid leggings could
look good? This routine is definitely outside of the naughty
ballerinas comfort zone, but she looks beautiful, sexy, and powerful.
The precision of this piece is amazing. And Ade is a stunning dancer.
What a great partnering. There's something dangerous and edgy about
this choreography, which I love. Sonya bring such an interesting energy
to the stage and Melissa & Ade really did it justice. The ballerina
is proving to be a formidable talent, and so is Ade!
Cat
says the two look like naughty rock'n'roll
imps that are up to no good. Melissa and Ade get Lil C's first "bucccc"
of the season. Lil C' tells Ade that he is every body's competition --
and I agree -- man, this guy can dance. Modifying manipulation of
movement....Lil C is all about the tongue twisters and alliteration
tonight! (Told you, mediocre poetry student!) Mary says it's time to
give Melissa & Ade some tough love,
oh of course, that's a Mary Murphy fake out. Enough with the fake-outs
So You Think You Can Dance. And there's a wee scream. Mary
says the technique was jaw dropping, and she loved the quirky style
that Sonya brings. (Me too Mary!) I gotta agree with Mary, these two
may be the strongest as far as technique this season. Normal Nigel says
Sonya's a bit strange and out there, but he said he was impressed that
Melissa and Ade matched each other's strength tonight and that the pair
did brilliantly.
