So You Think You Can Dance: Katee Shean's Surprising Elimination
Share This Share this
So You Think You Can Dance fans were not surprised when Courtney Galiano finished 4th in last night's finale.  The young dancer gave everything she had in this competition, dancing with heart and passion.  Her personality came through in all of her videos and interviews, forming her a very strong fan base this season.  All the heart in the world, though, couldn't push her past Josh, Katee, and Twitch but she left the show with no regrets and feeling very proud of herself.  Next, it seemed that one of the male dancers would be headed home and many felt it would be Twitch.  Josh and Katee seemed the frontrunners to be the final two standing but when Cat told Katee that she had been eliminated and would finish the competition in 3rd place, the shock in the room was evident.  How did Katee end up missing out on placing Top 2?  The answer may be more simple than you think!

I thought that it was just me who felt that something was off about Katie, until I started doing some research on So You Think You Can Dance message boards.  After Wednesday night's final performance episode, a thread was started on FOX's website about Katee's bad attitude throughout the night.  Fans felt that she pouted when she didn't receive enough praise, like when Mary told Twitch that he stood out in the final routine of the evening.  She also seemed visibly unhappy with her Broadway routine with Courtney, which was choreographed by Tyce DiOrio.

Katee lucked out with most of her routines this season.  She landed contemporary and Broadway and lot more than ballroom and hip hop.  In fact, the only hip hop routine I can remember her doing this season is "No Air", which was in the first episode.  Many fans of dance felt that Katee was not stretched this season and often danced in her strongest styles.  When she received praise, she sort of smiled but never seemed humbled or overjoyed by the compliments she was given.

It is without a doubt that Katee performed in the most amount of memorable routines this season.  From Bollywood to hip hop to contemporary, it is expected that she will be taking the stage quite often during the national tour.  However, we've said it before and we've said it again - this show was about finding America's Favorite Dancer.  Josh and Twitch were guys that you could get behind and root for.  You said their highs and lows, their emotion, their heart, and their senses of humor.  Had Katee been willing to let her guard down more and show off her personality, she may have been unstoppable.

Do you think Katee should have won So You Think You Can Dance?
