Whether we can believe it or not, it's finale night America! After a
jam packed final performance show last night, tonight we'll crown America's new favorite dancer. We have
our theories on who will take the title, but you never know how America is going to vote.
So watch along with me tonight as we revisit some of the most memorable routines of season 6, sit through four musical guests, and eventually learn the fate of the final six and America's favorite dancer.
It's almost finale time America! Let's do a roll call first and see who you think will be named America's Favorite Dancer tonight? I'm kind of hoping for a back-to-back BFF win for Jeanine Mason and Jakob Karr, but I'd be content if for of the top 6 won tonight. However, I think we all know at this point it is a three horse race between Russell, Jakob, and late season bloomer Kathryn.
We get a softly focus intro of the Top 6 saying how much it would mean for them to win and I am already teary eyed! Man the crying of season 6 is contagious and I've caught it bad!
Top 20 Group Dance
Song: Scared of Me
Choreographerd by Kelly Abbey (a new choreographer from Australia)
Great to see the Top 20 on stage and doing the group routine we never got. The Top 20 looks great in all black costumes, chairs for props, and some incredible leg work and matched pirouettes by the boys. Out of the Top 14 come the Top 6 striking dramatic poses, the top 6 is serving it, but they look exhausted while the other 14 dancers look crisp and full speed ahead. You can't blame the top 6 though, last night was exhausting to watch and I imagine it was definitely more so to compete.
Cat is looking finale flawless in a metallica cocktail frock, loose waves, and a bejeweled collar.
While the judges table has only held three seats this season (once we got rid of the pathetic Paul plea chair) there are six people behind the judges table tonight: Adam, Mary, Nigel, The Bucc of Bard (Lil C), Debbie Allen, and Tyce.
First up tonight a recap of last night, of course, you don't need that because you have my lovely live thoughts and a
performance ranking from last night, right?
One of my favorite parts of the finale is up next, judges choice! First up is Lil C' who chooses:
Russell, Legacy, and Kevin - Top 20 Intro Show Hip Hop RoutineYay! I am so excited to see this routine again, it was one of my favorites of the season...maybe the best hip hop of the season and I'm so thankful for Lil C' calling it out and giving props. I know this is really special for Kevin too, who said that he and Russell became like brothers during the season and that this was the highlight of his time on the show. Hooray for us all being able to relive the gravity less magic!
Next up is an Adam Shankman favorite, it's a Sonya piece and ... it's my favorite routine of the whole damn season. Ellenore and Jakob's contemporary routine!
Ellenore and Jakob, ContemporaryDon't mind me if I don't talk at all during this too busy drooling and reliving how much I love the leering quirkiness of this routine. I still want to know what Sonya's inspiration for the routine was, I think Jakob is supposed to be some sort of menacing spider. But without an explanation, I'll just savor how smitten I am with Jakob, Ellenore, and Sonya.
And now it's time for a Nigel Lythgoe favorite...and he's shouting out the Top 20 tappers with the all tap trio routine from the Top 20 Intro show.
A Trio of Tappers
This should be interesting, because I remember us all hating it ...especially the camera work that chose not to focus on their feet. Hopefully they learned a lesson? Nope. It was better than I remembered it and there are broad bright smiles on all three tappers faces, but it certainly isn't one of the most memorable or best routines of the season. Nigel just needed to feel validated about the three tapper semi-disaster of season 6.
Now it's time for Miss Mary Murphy, who wants to see a brand new routine...which my guess would be to see Ryan and Ashleigh dance a Latin Ballroom routine.
And I'm right, Ashleigh and Ryan DiLello - JiveThis routine is choreographed by the DiLello's and shows them doing what they do best -- dancing Latin Ballroom together and they certainly look every bit the pros they are. Thanks for that Mary Murphy, in reality, we all kind of wanted to see the DiLello's do that all season. Glad we got a chance to do so and in a way that didn't result in us all crying "a married Latin couple getting a Latin Ballroom number?!?!"
Now for our first of four musical guests, Leona Lewis...singing a song from Avatar and wearing a truly tragic outfit which is one half funeral parlor curtain and one half metal shop project. Well, we know that that Leona Lewis does not lip-synch, because she is hitting all kinds of sour notes. And sorry James Cameron's new movie, sorry to tell you, but this isn't another "Your Heart Will Go On" no matter how much you hope it is.
We're taking a brief break from musical guests and promoting Avatar for a guest dance routine by the Groovaloos... who appear to be a super sick breaking crew. This crew has funk and soul and all kinds of moves. Most importantly it was fun ... which I need because my stomach is churning about tonight's results!
Time for another judge's favorite ... and apparently it's time for Nigel, what about Miss Debbie Allen? I'll forgive it for now because it means I get to see
Kathryn and Jakob's Contemporary. BRB ... not breathing because it's so beautiful. And the routine gets ANOTHER standing ovation from the judges and audience and induces another full day of chills for most of us I'm sure.
Now it's time for Tyce's choice. He's chosen
Nathan and Mollee's Bollywood Routine which I'm actually eager to see. While it is so far outside of their genres, I think this was this couple's best dance all season. Sadly it took until tonight for Nathan to dance with the fire we waited to see from him all season...but glad that was one of the judge's choices.
Time for results and some mic issues and maybe three dancer's who refuse to take the stage...it really is live TV I guess. Oh no, Russell is crying and limping helped out by Ryan, because he says "he messed his leg up." This really is live TV. Cat asks if he has seen a medic and rushes through the announcement to get Russell off stage.
Now we learn who is in 6th place - Ryan Di Lello has been eliminated. Not surprising, congrats to Ryan for a solid season that exceeded anyone's expectation.
Most importantly I want to know what the heck happened to Russell, when, and how it affects tonight's show.
Up next, with no Russell injury update is Adam Lambert. Adam has updated his eyeliner with a guyliner tear. Looks like he's going for a much more mellow, less-risque routine than his last one. What do I want from you Adam Lambert? No offense, but to get off stage and for us to fastforward through the next hour, two musical guests, and get to announcing America's Favorite Dancer.
But no love for me, now it's time for a recap of the auditions process and the season introduced by the "Dancing Fool." Apparently we can have more than one of these recap montages tonight.
Time to learn the last eliminated dancer, Russell is back on stage but he's sitting on a stool...still no word on what caused his injury.
Our 5th place dancer of season 6? Ashleigh Di LelloSo far, the results have gone as they should have and about as expected. (We all knew the DiLello's wouldn't be winning America's Favorite Dancer.) Now it's the Top 4 and the winner ....and Russell's injury that I'm worried about.
Maybe the plethora of injuries can be what we use to convince FOX to get rid of the new gigantic awful stage. I mean, it's been one after the other, maybe everyone is blinded by those neon lights or dodging to avoid camera men?
