Smallville: Clark Kent's childhood friend Pete Ross (Sam Jones III) moved to Wichita at the end of season 3. Really? I thought he moved to Chicago to be Mekhi Pfifer's gay brother.
Jimmy (
Aaron Ashmore) and Kara (
Laura Vandervoort) attend a One Republic concert. I must be old, because I have no idea who they are. I imagine they're the new hip “indie” band. When I was in high school, this would've been Jimmy Eat World. God, I'm old.
Pete Ross is in da house! He asks the DJ for some gum, and Mr. DJ responds that they're in a gum factory. I assumed this was some new, hip comeback, but no, the concert is actually being held in a Stride Gum factory. Pete, a roadie for the band, finds some gum and takes an oddly glowing stick. It's probably still better than the stuff you'd find in a pack of baseball cards.
Pete sees a speaker falling, with Kara underneath it. He reaches out to save her, but since he's so far away, he simply stretches his arms like an Elastic Man. Kara thanks him, new and improved Elasti-Pete is weirded out, and Jimmy got the whole thing on his camera phone.
At Kent farm, Clark (
Tom Welling) is greeted in the kitchen by Lana (
Kristin Kreuk) and Lionel Luthor (
John Glover). Clark wants to tell amnesiac Kara the truth about who she is, but Lionel and Lana are opposed since she's all buddy-buddy with Lex. Clark's idea is to find her Kryptonian bracelet. As Lionel leaves, Elasti-Pete shows up and it's a bit awkward, since a lot has changed in four years.
Elasti-Pete is a little disappointed that Lana, Lionel and Chloe all know Clark's secret. Elasti-Pete still can't get over his hatred for the Luthors. They bond over a game of basketball, and Elasti-Pete shows off his elastic abilities. He's happy to finally be a hero, and Clark immediately wants to reverse it. Elasti-Pete is too excited over the prospect of finally being special, and he threatens Clark to let him enjoy it, or else he'll expose his former best friend.
Lex (
Michael Rosenbaum) and Kara bond over their mutual distrust of Clark. Lex shows her some pictures of weird Kryptonian symbols that also appear on her bracelet, so he too is after it. So in reality, this episode is all about Lex and Clark both trying to find the same female fashion accessory.
Chloe (
Allison Mack) is at the Daily Planet, on the phone with tech support. Jimmy stops by to show her his photo of Elasti-Pete. Chloe is freaked, but Jimmy says Elasti-Pete is willing to be interviewed and wants the story of his meteor freakdom out. Chloe calls Clark to tell him when she realizes her computer problems are due to the fact that Lex is monitoring and downloading all her work, including the photo on her screen. She's offended he's spying, but he defends his right to total ownership over everything within the Daily Planet's walls.
Elasti-Pete meets up with Chloe, and he's still cocky about his new, cool powers, but Chloe is worried, not necessarily for him or Clark, but because she too is a meteor freak who wants to stay in the closet. I'm pretty sure this episode is using meteor freakitude as a metaphor for homosexuality.
Jimmy returns to the newspaper to find Elasti-Pete downloading a virus onto Lex's computer to erase what he found on Chloe's computer. Lex finds him and blackmails him to find Kara's bracelet in Lionel's vault in order to keep Chloe's meteor freak secret. Not only is Elasti-Pete shocked to hear this, but Jimmy overhears it too!
Clark discovered the Stride gum was full of Kryptonite and destroyed it. When he and Chloe return to the Daily Planet, the computers are all fried and Jimmy tells them about Elasti-Pete's plot to steal the bracelet from Lionel's vault.
Inside LuthorCorp, Elasti-Pete strolls up to the vault and unlocks it by stretching his hand through the crack of the door. He finds the bracelet, but Clark is right behind him. Clark is disappointed, but Elasti-Pete makes some valid points questioning why Lionel was hiding the bracelet. Elasti-Pete opens a chest of Kryptonite to immobilize Clark so he can take care of Lex once and for all.
Once again, One Republican is performing at the Stride Gum factory/hipster concert venue. Elasti-Pete meets up with Lex and stretches his arms to grab and start choking Lex. A bodyguard arrives to punch the Krypto-Gum right out of now regular Pete. Pete refuses to tell him where the bracelet is. Elsewhere, Lionel saves Clark and he runs off to help Pete before talking to Lionel about the bracelet issue. Clark arrives in the nick of time to save Pete, who is grateful.
Pete says goodbye to Clark and apologizes for being jealous, but he promises to find another way to be a hero. Then he heads to say goodbye to Chloe. Jimmy arrives, acting all weird because now he knows about Chloe's meteor freaky side. He suspects Pete and Chloe are an item and makes a hilarious joke that “Gumby finally found his Pokey.” That's a little dirty for this show. Jimmy asks Chloe out for coffee and she accepts.
In Lex's mansion, some secretary arrives with information. The alignment of the stars in the Luthor family crest corresponds to their exact alignment on October 7, 1989, the day of the first meteor shower. The secretary has more, but before we get too deep into the
Smallville mythology, Kara arrives to say she doesn't trust Clark and Lana, and she wants to move in with Lex.
