Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Stargirl Join 'Smallville' This January
There's been a lot of buzz about what's new on Smallville lately, ever since three members of the Justice Society have been cast.  Season nine has been hailed positively by fans so far, especially since we're seeing more and more comic book characters come to life.

First on our list today is Hawkman, and IGN TV reports that the role has been given to Stargate SG-1 actor Michael Shanks.  He already has quite a background on sci-fi and action shows like Burn Notice and Eureka, which will allow him to fit in perfectly on Smallville.

Next up is Doctor Fate, who will reportedly be portrayed by Brent Stait.  Again, there's a lot of sci-fi support behind him, as he's appeared on Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and the direct-to-DVD movie Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods.  The guy is also playing Rev Bem on Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda.

The stellar cast for Geoff John's upcoming Justice Society episode doesn't stop there though.  The writer posted on his Twitter account that one of the members who'll be seen on Smallville soon is "A girl.  Who likes stars."  Of course, it was obvious that he was referring to Stargirl, AKA Courtney Whitmore.

As for her TV version, Fancast has confirmed that actress Britt Irvin has booked the role as guest star.  While she doesn't have the sci-fi background that Shanks and Stait have, she might be what's needed for a bit of light-heartedness on Smallville.  Irvin has been seen on the comedy Hot Rod, as well as the series Aliens in America.

While Geoff Johns will be penning the episode, titled "Society," the director who will be heading behind the camera is Glen Winter.  The two of them will be teaming up again, since working on last season's fan favorite installment - "Legion."

The rest of the Justice Society haven't been cast, and there's only speculation regarding which members will appear on Smallville.  Still, there are still a couple of months away until January, which is when "Society" is scheduled to air.
