After four months of waiting, fans can finally indulge in a night of slapstick, parody and entertainment as Saturday Night Live
returns for a new season. Many notable guests have been lined up for season 33 but for tonight's premiere, the 90-minute comedy variety show will be graced with the presence of self-proclaimed “Global Icon” and NBA superstar, Lebron James and award-winning rapper and record producer, Kanye West.
James, Cleveland Cavaliers forward, has set numerous records on the court by becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach 5,000 career points and by winning the MVP award in the 2006 All Star Game, as well as the Rookie of the Year honors. As the host that kicks off the season opener, he joins a distinguished roster of superstar athletes who have participated on SNL
during its long run, including fellow NBA stars Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley, NFL players Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Joe Montana, and other infamous sports icons.
As for West, the program's musical guest who will be joining James in his second appearance on SNL
, he is known as a hip hop icon who has made history with his groundbreaking third album, Graduation
, which debuted at number 1 with 957,000 units sold. His latest album is a follow-up to 2005's multiple Grammy nominated album, Late Registration
, which sold over 860,000 in the first week of release.
Saturday Night Live
, which recently took home two Emmys, including an award for Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video for a Series, and Outstanding Music & Lyrics for the internet phenomenon "D**k in a Box," continues its historic run tonight at 11:30/10:30c on NBC.
