Saturday Night Live: Poehler Says Goodbye, Palin Skit Sexist?

The skit on Saturday Night Live featuring Tina Fey as Alaska governor Sara Palin and Amy Poehler as Senator Hillary Clinton was a huge hit, to say the least.  A lot of people have commented on Fey's striking resemblance to the vice presidential candidate even before SNL's premiere two weeks ago.  When she put on that Palin dress and the spectacles, it's true – Fey can out-Palin Palin.

Rising above the uproar, McCain Campaign adviser Carly Fiorina reportedly told NBC that the Saturday Night Live skit was “sexist,” portraying Palin as devoid of substance and Clinton as horribly disadvantaged throughout the campaign period.

"The portrait was very dismissive of the substance of Sarah Palin, and so, in that sense, they were defining Hillary Clinton as very substantive, and Sarah Palin as totally superficial.  I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say, sexist in the sense that, just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton, does not mean that she lacks substance.  She has a lot of substance."

A McCain aide has reportedly come out to say that all of the Republican campaign staff thought the skit was hilarious, and Fiorina was speaking for himself.

In other news, Poehler announced recently that she is leaving Saturday Night Live later this year to give birth to her first baby with Arrested Development star Will Arnett.

Poehler, 37, said she will not be coming back after her maternity leave that will start October to focus on her new series, reportedly a spin-off of Steve Carell's The Office.  She will stay throughout the election campaign, though, to continue portraying the former first lady.

"It's gonna be really hard -- Boyz II Men hard,” said the comedienne, “to say goodbye to yesterday.  SNL was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down."
