The Lonely Island, the comedy trio composed of
Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg and his writing buddies Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, has inked a deal with Universal Republic to release their unabashedly raunchy debut album called “Incredibad.” Set for release on February 10, the CD includes the first single "Ji-- in My Pants," which premiered as a digital short on last weekend's
Saturday Night Live.
Meant to make fans laugh, the album features a mix of songs made famous in digital shorts on
Saturday Night Live over the years, including prior internet sensations such as "D*ck in a Box" with Justin Timberlake, "Iran So Far" with Maroon 5's Adam Levine and "Lazy Sunday," just to name a few.
"We definitely wanted it to be a classic comedy album, but also one you put on more than once," Samberg told MTV News. "We've gone out of our way to make it musically pleasing. We started on a few songs that were not funny enough, for us, but they sounded pretty cool. And the bottom line for the project was, 'Is it going to be funny first and music second?' I think it's 95 percent music, and we hope people would throw it on and bump it."
Originally from Los Angeles, The Lonely Island now resides in New York and has created numerous comedic films, shorts, parody songs, and music videos. In addition to the aforementioned hits, the group has also made three full-length television pilots, all of which were rejected. At present, the group operates a web site under the same name that showcases their collaborations.
"We finally had the free time to do it this summer," Samberg said.
According to Samberg, although some of the
Saturday Night Live songs have already become instant classics, he still believes there's an added value to the ones that never appeared on the variety sketch comedy "because Jorma and Akiva aren't cast members, and our songs normally require three dudes with very specific rap skills."
