As reported previously,
Rev. Run and his wife
Justine Simmons have recently released the book entitled
Take Back Your Family: A Challenge to America's Parents, which spawned from their reality series
Run's House.
The book, in which the
Run's House stars encourages parents to “run your family as a CEO,” was released on August 5 and in just a short span of time, has now made it to the
New York Times bestseller list.
Topping out at number 15 on the Hardcover Advice books list,
Take Back Your Family: A Challenge to America's Parents emphasizes firm boundaries, noble values, discipline and faith in an age marked by materialism and fragmented families. It also mirrors the message Rev. Run tries to convey on the MTV reality series
Run's House.
“My whole show is a ministry, Rev. Run told AllHipHop.com. “I don't have a church that I'm the pastor of. So in my mind, I'm a very untraditional reverend. And my pulpit just happens to be MTV, which is a very different type of congregation.”
As a firm believer that hypocrisy and parenting are a destructive combination, Rev. Run tries to lead by example, especially now that the spotlight is not only on him but on his children as well.
“People are showing me blog things, and I'm like what do you want me to look at,” the
Run's House star said. “There's nothing to see. What is she not supposed to talk to guys? There's nothing I can do but let guys be guys, let girls be girls; let Jojo put his album out, and [let them] live their life. That's all I can do is raise them the best that I can, and watch them operate in this world without cramping their style… I've been blessed with kids that are smart, and they're not followers, they're leaders. They're not really caught up in the whole game like that. They move around. They're basically good kids. It doesn't guarantee anything, but I did the best I could and I do the best I can.”
