Denis Leary and the other NYC firefighters are due back on the darling FX series Rescue Me when it fires up its penultimate season on June 29. The season 6 premiere will be followed by the series opener of Louie, a comedy that revolves around Louis C.K and his life as a comedian and single dad of two.

'Rescue Me' Stars Announce Comedy Tour

"The pairing of Rescue Me and Louie this summer will create an hour and a half of the funniest and most ruthlessly honest comedy and drama about men ever seen on commercial television," FX Networks President John Landgraf said. "We're thrilled by the quality of both these shows."

The final two seasons of Rescue Me will return the focus to Tommy (Leary) and his last shot at redemption. Season 6 will have 10 episodes, while the final season will have 9, potentially culminating with the series finale on or around the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

More good news: Maura Tierney is returning to Rescue Me to play Kelly McPhee, a love interest for Tommy. She played Kelly, a woman who rushed into a fire that the crew is fighting. Tierney was all set to appear on NBC's Parenthood when she had to drop out after filming the pilot to undergo breast cancer treatment. She was replaced by Lauren Graham.

Much of the fifth season of Rescue Me also revolved around Tommy's extended family, including Cousin Mickey (Robert John Burke), Cousin Eddie (Terry Serpico), Uncle Teddy (Lenny Clarke) and Teddy's wife Ellie (Patti D'Arbanville), as they returned to drinking after spending several months in AA.
