On season 3 of FOX's
Prison Break, Michael has found himself inside the prison walls again, only this time he's in a South American prison, Sona, which is a far cry from Fox River. His brother, now a free man, sits on the outside, trying to help him. An organization known only as The Company approaches Lincoln, demanding that Michael break a prisoner, Whistler, out of Sona. They convince Lincoln and Michael to help them by holding Lincoln's son, LJ, and Michael's love, Sara, hostage. When Lincoln tries to rescue them, and fails, The Company sends a message to the brothers that they will follow all future orders. That message came to light on last night's episode, when Lincoln found Dr. Sara Tancredi's head in a box.
Just one month ago,
BuddyTV reported the rumors that actress Sarah Wayne Callies would not be returning to
Prison Break for a third season. Fans did not want to believe it, signing petitions and demanding a recast so that the character of Dr. Tancredi could continue and the storyline between her and Michael could be resolved in a way that was fair to everyone. Since the episode aired last night, BuddyTV readers have expressed their sadness over her death in the
Prison Break forums, but also vowed to keep watching.
Yesterday, TV Guide interviewed
Prison Break executive producer Matt Olmstead, who shed more light on the decision to kill off Dr. Tancredi forever. He also defended the decision to kill her off once and for all. "We determined that this was the right thing to do in order to really jolt the series," he said. Olmstead said that the show tried every way possible to get Sarah Wayne Callies to return in order to resolve the storyline but she rejected every idea. "We were really looking forward to paying off that relationship. But [when] it became evident that that wasn't going to happen, we made lemonade out of a lemon," he told TV Guide.
Callies, who is based in Canada, recently started a family and did not want to continue with the show. She did release a statement of her own which read, "As hard as we all tried, the Prison Break powers that be and I were unable to find a way to meet both the needs of the story and the needs of my family. We parted wishing each other well." She thanked her fans as well as the
Prison Break staff and now looks to her future and her new life as wife and mother.
