Lincoln Burrows is is the brother of Michael Scofield. After dropping out of high school in the 10th grade, Burrows immediately found himself in trouble with the law. Prior convictions include two months for Theft; three months for Criminal Damage to Property; six months for Battery; Six months for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; ten months for Battery. Burrows pled not guilty and was convicted on all counts in connection with the death of Terrence Steadman, the brother of President Carolyn Reynolds.

Growing up, he and Michael shared a very tight bond. When their mother died, Lincoln became Michael’s legal guardian. Their relationship started to deteriorate when Lincoln got in trouble with the law. However, unbeknownst to Michael, Lincoln had loaned $90000 in order to put Michael through college. The loan thrust Lincoln into more conflict, and it was what got him arrested for the murder of Terrence Steadman. Upon his arrest, his former girlfriend, Veronica Donovan, told Michael the truth about the loan, and this in turn, compelled Michael, who gradually became convinced of Lincoln’s innocence, to help his brother escape from prison.

Michael wasn’t the only family whom Lincoln alienated when he engaged in his life of crime. Lincoln’s son, LJ, became highly resentful of him, and initially had wanted nothing to do with him. However, when new evidence in favor of Lincoln was brought to light, the real people behind the controversy went after LJ by framing him for his own mother and stepfather’s deaths. The murders and the frame-up led LJ to believe his father, which put their lives in further danger. Lincoln then asked Veronica to look after his son, and while Veronica pursued her own investigation, she and Lincoln rekindled their romance.

Although Lincoln was very happy to be reunited with Michael, he initially did not want to take part in the escape plan. He grew even more protective of Michael, especially when Michael had an altercation with mob boss John Abruzzi. Gradually and after it became clear that more people were beginning to believe him, Lincoln decided to go along with Michael’s plan.

After successfully breaking out of prison, Lincoln immediately contacted LJ and Veronica. Sadly, because Veronica had uncovered the truth (Terrence Steadman is very much alive), she was killed off, which further strengthened Lincoln’s resolve.
