Drew Carey Returns to Television as the Host of 'Power of 10'
The new primetime game show, Power of 10, will premiere in CBS tonight at 8pm ET/PT, with Drew Carey as its host.  The 49-year-old comedian and actor, known for his work on the American version of Whose Line is it Anyway?, will be giving contestants the chance to win $10 million by asking them five percentage-related questions created from public-opinion poll's results.  The game proved interesting enough for Carey to return to television.

"I would have been quite happy to never, ever be on another TV show," Carey said, "but this sounded so interesting to me, I said I'd do it.  It was a big thing that [Who Wants to be a Millionaire? executive producer] Michael Davies was doing it, and I think people who watch it will rethink what they believe America believes."

Drew Carey also said that since he also does not know the answers to the questions, he gets to “play along with the contestants,” for whom he has much empathy.

“I feel for people when they play the game.  I want them to win, and I want to help them make the right decision.  I guess that shows through,” he said.  "You don't want to cheat anyone out of their opportunity to make money, but if somebody's making a guess that's so far off, you kind of have to go, 'Whoa! Don't blow it!'  You're the Dutch uncle of the show, but they don't blame you if they lose.  It's the best of both worlds."

With shows such as Deal or No Deal, 1 vs. 100 and Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? doing well for their respective networks, it was only a matter of time before CBS developed their own high-stakes game series.

"CBS wanted a big-money game.  It was one of the only networks that didn't have one,” Carey said.  “[Power of 10 is] going to be the biggest-money game show in the history of television, and I really hope someone wins the US$10 million,” Carey said.

Aside from Power of 10, Drew Carey is also set to host the long-running daytime television game show, The Price is Right.
