Party Down, a new comedy series from Starz, follows a group of dreamers struggling to make it big in Hollywood, while stuck in their jobs as an LA catering team.  They mingle with their guests, waiting on them while harboring hopes of something better.

Premiering tonight, the show was created by Rob Thomas, best known for his work on Veronica Mars.  The series is backed up by celebrated executive producers, like John Enbom, Dan Etheridge, Paul Rudd and Thomas himself.

Party Down begins with the pilot episode “Willow Canyon Home Owners Annual Party,” directed by the acclaimed Fred Savage.  In it, celebrity wannabe Henry Pollard (Adam Scott) returns to Party Down catering after a failed acting stint.  Having worked for years in a beer commercial isn't helping him make ends meet; it was time for something different.

At Party Down, Henry meets his fellow employees – his over-achieving ex-co-worker Ron Donald (Ken Marino), the uncontrollable Den Mother Constance Carmell (Jane Lynch), the handsome but egoistic Kyle Bradway (Ryan Hansen), sci-fi enthusiast Roman Debeers (Martin Starr) and promising comedienne Casey Klein (Lizzy Caplan).  Together, they're doing their best to ease into the spotlight and claim their rightful serving of fame and fortune.

Below, you can see the hapless but hopeful team in the official trailer for Party Down.  In this half-hour comedy, each character gets the spotlight as they interact with a quirky array of guests in every party they work on.  Even though they're putting aside personal lives and goals, the crew remains optimistic about their future – no matter how bleak it looks.

Starz also released a look behind the scenes of the new series, picking out the six misfits portrayed by the acclaimed actors of the show.

Even with a strong ensemble cast, it's too early to tell how Party Down will fare with the numerous comedies airing on television these days.  Still, it might be worth seeing.  Catch Party Down tonight, March 20 at 10:30pm on Starz.
