“I’ve got to get back to my life now,” Paris Hilton said in last week’s Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, as she TTYN’ed Lauren after a very intense discussion session with the five remaining girls.  A pretty poignant line for her to say, if you ask me, considering the things she is going back to.

Is it just me or is Paris’ relationships very complicated?  She’s been in the spotlight for quite a while, and during that time we’ve obviously seen quite a lot, but this week it seems things have gone the way of the roller coaster.  It is, after all, about her relationship with Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, or whatever’s left of it now, if anything.  Depending on who you’re listening to, you’ll get a different side of the story, and perhaps a peek into what she faces on a daily basis—and, in theory, whoever wins My New BFF in the coming weeks.

Last week, all we knew is that she was seen together with her former boyfriend Stavros Niachros.  All of a sudden, we’re hearing reports that Paris has broken up with Benji, and as with everything about the heiress, everybody will just pounce on it, and with that, the many interpretations it entails. I t’s just one interview with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show in Los Angeles, even.  So many interpretations.

So, is Paris and Benji calling it quits?  Fox News says they haven’t broken up, and even quotes Paris: “You know, I love him.  He’s such an amazing man and he’s my best friend and he’s been so great to me and so loyal.”

But E! Online, basing on the same interview, says a slightly different thing.  “Right now we're just taking a break,” Paris said, citing conflicts in their schedules.  “He has been working nonstop with his brother on his new record. I am working and traveling.  All these reports that say I dumped him aren’t true.  This is a decision we made together as adults.”

That write-up also mentioned Paris clarifying that she hasn’t returned to the arms of her former squeeze.  “That’s ridiculous,” she said.  “Someone must have gotten a quick camera phone picture of Stavros saying hi.  He’s someone I hadn’t seen in a year.”

So, is it really a split-up or not?  Celebrity magazine OK! reported that Paris chased Benji down across Los Angeles in an attempt to reconcile with him.  After many unanswered text messages, she allegedly tracked him down at a nightclub.  The two never met, according to the report, as he left when he found out what was happening, and she missed him by a few seconds.  Benji, however, was heard saying, “Can’t I have a night out in peace?”

A word to the remaining four contestants, then: be scared.  Be very scared.  This is what you’ll end up having as a life if ever you are chosen as Paris’ new BFF.  Then again, there are the fun things you get to do with the socialite.  On tonight’s episode, the girls accompany Paris to a photo shoot, and later get a grilling from Ryan Seacrest himself, live across the nation (or at least across Los Angeles).  Wait a minute—is that the same day Paris said all these things about her relationship?  Oh, that complicated flux… anyway, Paris Hilton’s My New BFF returns to MTV tonight from 10pm.
