Fans excited about James Lafferty’s annual charity basketball game received some bad news this week when the One Tree Hill star announced that the game will be canceled this year.

In a statement Lafferty sent to the site OTHFans.com, he said that various forms of harassment he, his friends and family have received have forced him to cancel the annual event, which helps raise money for charity’s such as the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Lafferty wrote: “As a result of constant harassment and gross invasions of privacy via e-mail and telephone, targeting myself, my friends and even my family, I no longer feel comfortable holding a fundraiser in such an intimate setting with fans.”

He added, “It is frustrating and discouraging that a few have ruined it for the many this year, and I hope that myself and the show have the opportunity to be charitable again in the future under different circumstances.”

He went on to add that this was his personal decision and was not because of One Tree Hill or anyone else, and that he hopes to be able to help with charity functions on the future.

Last year BuddyTV spoke to James Lafferty shortly after the annual charity basketball game, and he was quite proud of the number of fans who would come out to watch the game and meet the cast to help raise money for charity.
