One Tree Hill came back with a delightful little amuse bouche of an episode last night. Some major events certainly transpired, but mostly it was a nifty little chance to see five completely separate vignettes to catch fans up on what's going on with everyone. There were laughs, tears and sadly yawns, but overall, it was cute.
The obvious question from this episode is: what was your favorite scene? The deconstruction of
One Tree Hill allowed fans to carefully weigh the merits of each of the five primary couples. Some came through with flying colors, others proved that they don't deserve a place in our hearts. Let's rank the five scenes.

#5 “The Long Goodbye”
More like “The Long Who-Cares.” Millie came back for a relatively pointless scene where she and Mouth confirmed their break-up. Since I already assumed they'd broken up, I didn't need to see this, nor did I want to. It was the very definition of filler and made me angry that more interesting pairs weren't shown instead. Why not Mia and Chase? Or Sam and Jack? Or Jamie and Chester? I could name a dozen more pairs I would have rather watched than this, and that includes Tim and Whitey.
#4 “The Seven Year Itch”
If
Chad Michael Murray and
Hilarie Burton really are leaving,
One Tree Hill could be in trouble. As much as I like Haley and Nathan as a couple, they're fairly boring. Yes, they love each other and like each other and have fun and sexual chemistry, but is that really interesting to watch? If the show plans on making these the new primary leads, they really need to spice up this relationship. We've already seen Nanny Carrie, but how about Manny Kevin? It could combine the outrageous absurdity of Nanny Carrie and Psycho Derek into one neat little package.
#3 “The Cold War”
I love Jamie and Dan and Deb, so this entire storyline was a lot of fun. The problem is that it didn't go anywhere. Other than providing some exposition for new viewers about the car dealership fire, Jules, Keith and the murder, the debate went nowhere. At least it ended with Dan getting a heart. Now I don't have to worry about that great character leaving too.
#2 “The Deleted Scene”
First, I'd like to thank One Tree Hill for introducing me to WhosDatedWho.com. How else would I know that
Torrey DeVitto (aka Nanny Carrie) dated Drake Bell or that
Danneel Harris (aka
OTH's troubled Rachel) allegedly dated
Supernatural's
Jensen Ackles? But aside from the clever references to Brooke's sordid sexual past, this vignette was great because of the emotional toll. We got to see the fragility of Brooke and the start of the disintegration of this relationship.
#1 “The Surprise”
On the one hand, thank God Peyton didn't have a miscarriage. I'm not even a diehard Leyton Lover, but even I would've been hurt by that kind of tragedy. The current outcome isn't much better, and it was nice to see Peyton and Lucas fighting not over something petty, but over something very real. I don't know if their optimism will lead to a happy ending, or if they're just deluding themselves to the inevitable tragedy, but either way, the actors and writers really threw the whole kitchen sink into this scene.
