Once Upon a Time
, the new ABC drama bridging the gap between reality and childhood fantasy, is generating quite a bit of buzz.
The show follows Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), who learns that she is the long lost daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwyn).
Wait, there's more!
Once Upon a Time
is set in the world we know, yet in a fictional New England town called Storybrooke (clever, I know) where the pages separating reality and fantasy bleed together. The characters we all remember from childhood fairy tales have forgotten their enchanted roots, yet their personalities remain.
Yes, we'll have dual characters jumping back and forth between their real personas and those from storybooks, so what, and who, can we expect to see in the upcoming series premiere of Once Upon a Time
? Fret no longer, because I have spoilers for all you naughty children! Good little boys and girls are now allowed to leave the room.Vampires in Storybrooke?
Not quite. However, True Blood
star Kristin Bauer van Straten, who plays Pam on the hit HBO series, will be joining the cast as (brace yourselves ...) Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty." Probably the shortest-lived villain's climax in animated history, Maleficent will rise again for revenge! Senses tell me the Evil Queen should keep her friends close and Maleficent closer.
Creepy Old Ladies
Everyone loves their grandmother's baking, right? Well, this old lady might be more than you bargained for. The Blind Witch from "Hansel and Gretel" will be making an appearance this season. She'll even live in a gingerbread house! No word on who will take on this role, or even if she'll actually be old, but older just makes it creepier, right?
A Look at the First Two Episodes
Young Henry (Jared Gilmore) finds his mother, Emma Swan, and explains that she is Snow White's daughter. Feeling sorry for the boy, Emma takes him home to Storybrooke, where she can't help but feel a connection to the place and the people who live there. She quickly learns of the upcoming battle between good and evil and accepts her fate, agreeing to fight against the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla).
"The Thing You Love Most":
Regina/the Evil Queen makes it apparent that she will do everything in her power to keep Emma from ruining her master plan, even if it means keeping her out of Henry's life for good. Light is shed on the nature of the Evil Queen's curse over the town and how it came about. Plus, Maleficent (Straten) will make her appearance in this episode.
Looking forward to Once Upon a Time
and its two-fold characters? Make sure to watch the premiere Sunday, October 23 on ABC at 8/7c.Jilliane JohnsonContributing Writer(Image courtesy of ABC)
