NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles have been going strong in their tenth and fourth seasons, respectively, and it looks like the team behind both hit CBS series is planning another spin-off.

Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.

As someone who watches and loves both NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles, I have to say that the news that the franchise will be expanded with another spin-off caught me by surprise; it was a good surprise, but still, I wasn't expecting this announcement at all.

Deadline reports that the untitled project will be written and executive produced by NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles executive producer Shane Brennan. It is a planted spinoff from NCIS: LA, which Brennan created and serves as showrunner on. The show will feature new characters who will be introduced in a special two-part episode of NCISLA later this season. The new series will follow a small mobile team of NCIS agents who will have to do more than just work together on cases. Due to the nature of their work, the team will also be forced to live together as well.

NCIS and NCISLA both started out as spin-offs and both are mega hits for CBS, so chances are that this one could do really well in the ratings, too. With this current development, it looks like NCIS could be on its way to having a franchise like the long-running CSI series: a show that has also created spin-offs of spin-offs.

Personally I'm tickled pink at the news of a new franchise. I'll admit to having some trepidation when I first heard about NCIS: Los Angeles, but it quickly turned in one of my favorite shows on TV, right behind NCIS. I'm especially excited by the prospect of the team having to live together on the new series. I watch both parent shows because of the characters and any situation that gives us more character interaction is okay by me.

Obviously they'll have to get the right cast and the right stories to make a show like this one work, but considering what the people behind NCIS and NCISLA have done so far, I'm confident that they'll make it happen. All I can say now is: bring it on!

What do you think of the news that NCIS: Los Angeles is planning a new spin-off to add to the NCIS franchise? Are you willing to give the new series a shot? Do you think you'll like it as much as the originals?
