Want to see a new album from Jordis, Naia, or Pip? Want to be a part of getting that album made? Welcome to Big Red Chairs, the blog for all your Voice
needs. This week: their new Kickstarter projects, news on a Voice
tour, and some awesome upcoming events!
Being on The Voice
is awesome, but it has to translate into something positive for an artist's career going forward. That's why a number of artists have turned to their fan bases to help fund their post-show projects.Artist Kickstarters
The Shields Brothers started this trend way back
with a successful Kickstarter to fund their next album. Now, other artists have followed suit.
Team Cee Lo's Jamie Lono reached his fundraising goal
in late April. In fact, he more than doubled it!
Team Blake's Jordis Unga has far exceeded her fundraising goal
with an impressive $58,746 (that's more than $25,000 over what she was aiming for!) and is now in the process of making her debut record.
Her teammate Naia Kete is so, so close to her goal
, with $9,835 of her $10,000. That's just $165 away from the finish line!
Over on Team Adam, Pip just launched his fundraising effort
, and has $4,729 of the $26,000 he needs to make his first album a reality. (I want to give a particular shoutout to the Pipsters in this column, as I know several who are pulling together their own efforts to raise money to donate to his project. That's so sweet!)
And Pip's Team Adam colleague Nathan Parrett is putting together an effort
to bring Spring Awakening
back to Los Angeles. This is still a new effort, with $120 put towards its $6,500 need. But seriously, if you've heard Nathan sing (or read my review here
), you know we need to get this awesome artist back out on a stage as often as possible!
We've got some season one artists on the fundraising trail as well: Team Cee Lo's Nakia is working on getting his brand new album made
, with the help of PledgeMusic, sitting at 16% of his goal with 51 days left to fund the project.
It's worth noting that you don't have to fork over a ton of money to help support your favorite artist(s). You can donate as little as $1 to be part of the effort. If it's possible for you, you can continue to help these talented singers (and great people besides) make their dreams a reality.Lots and Lots of National Anthems
Quite a few Voice alumni have been singing the National Anthem recently, including champ Jermaine Paul, Team Adam's Katrina Parker, and Team Cee Lo's Jamar Rogers and Cheesa.
The one that stands out to me was that of Team Adam's Tony Lucca, who got to sing the Anthem at the 2012 Sprint All-Star Race in North Carolina, the same day that Blake Shelton and Gwen Sebastian happened to be performing pre-show. Small world!
Here's video of Tony's performance, courtesy Speed Channel (and user Chadro15 on YouTube).
Congratulations on a great job, Tony. (If you missed it, check out my in-depth interview with him
.) Who else would you want to hear performing at an event near you?Tour Dates
First, the bad news: there won't be a The Voice
tour this season. I suspected this when nothing was announced during the run of the show, and was sure of it once season three was announced as coming in June
But I asked my good friend Katrina Parker if she'd heard anything during our recent chat, and she said that "I heard from two different people that we weren't doing the tour, and if it was going to happen, it was going to be the two combined seasons [seasons two and three]. Honestly, my gut says it's not going to happen."
That's unfortunate, because this season's Top 8 certainly would have been a blast to see on tour! They could've made some beautiful music together.
Thankfully, we can still catch them all individually - and I have an amazing
announcement for all my fellow Tony Vincent
fans. Tony announced that on June 25th, he'll be playing Rockwood Music Hall in New York City! How cool is that?! You can get more information by visiting the 'shows' page
at his official site. Oh, and he's got a major announcement coming Monday...stay tuned to his Twitter
so you don't miss out!
Team Cee Lo's Justin Hopkins is making his way back East, with stops in Chicago (May 31), Indianapolis (June 1), Philadelphia (June 3) and another StageIt online show (June 4). For tour dates, visit Justin's Facebook page
For you Detroit folk, Tony Lucca has a homecoming show there on June 21. Tickets and further info are here at Live Nation

Want to be in the audience for season three's blind auditions, which start June 19? You can visit the fine folks at 1iota and put your name in to request tickets
