'Mad Men' Makes History at the Emmys
The 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were a spectacle as Mad Men made history on ABC as basic cable's first show to win a best drama award.  In fact, more shows came into the limelight to win awards, such as 30 Rock, which was able to take home four trophies that night, including the NBC series' second consecutive recognition for best comedy series.  30 Rock star Tina Fey gushed as she further promoted the show, saying that it is now available through several avenues such as NBC.com, Hulu.com, iTunes, Verizon phones and much more.  Newbies Breaking Bad and Damages also picked up awards for Bryan Cranston and Glenn Close.

However, most notable was the award given to Mad Men, which garnered two million viewers for one of its episodes.  Creator Matthew Weiner thanked the supporters of the show, saying, "I want to thank all the people that went before us in television to make a show like this, because we're just channeling it every day and we love going to work."

Even Damages star Glenn Close applauded the success of Mad Men, saying that "I'm proud to be on a show that was next to Mad Men, and that they were the first two shows to be nominated from basic cable.  I hope it will happen more in the future."

Weiner also had a few things to say in the press room when he was asked how it felt being the first cable show ever to win best series.  He answered, "I'm surprised that there is such segregation and caste system at the Emmys. I have this amazing cast, and none of them was asked to present awards tonight."

Mad Men stars Jon Hamm as Don Draper, John Slattery as Roger Sterling, Vincent Kartheiser as Pete Campbell, January Jones as Betty Draper, Christina Hendricks as Joan Holloway, Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson, Michael Gladis as Paul Kinsey, Aaron Staton as Ken Cosgrove and Rich Sommer as Harry Crane.

Catch Mad Men as it airs every Sunday at 10pm on AMC.
