After the long wait, Law and Order: Criminal Intent returns for its season 8, with actor Jeff Goldblum playing Zach Nichols, replacing Chris Noth as a Senior Detective. Veterans Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe also return as Goren and Eames, alternating episodes with partners Wheeler, played by Julianne Nicholson, and newcomer Goldblum.
In the premiere episode, a drug-addicted daughter of a city politician survived a hit on her blackmailing and dealer boyfriend, with Goren and Eames uncovering secrets and lies in this sick episode. Also noteworthy was Kathy Bates, who played as the grandmother of the teen.
In what appears to be a continuation of a trend last year, we found out more things about Goren's character, as he revealed more tidbits of information about his childhood to get through to the troubled teen. Yes, thanks to his own dysfunctional family upbringing, he was able to get some information.
Fifth-six-year-old Goldblum, meanwhile, was heavily anticipated because of his trademark delivery of lines and acting.
"We like Goldblum because of a certain style. The Jeff Goldblum classic character is odd but brilliant and charismatic to boot. We expect him to have a certain verbal style: full of pauses, staccato delivery and meaningful emphasis."
Goldblum is known to play quirky, intense, and eccentric characters. He is perhaps best known for leading roles in films such as the 19 86 sci-fi horror flick
The Fly and the 1989 rom com
The Tall Guy, as well as supporting spots in Invasion of the
Body Snatchers,
The Bill Chill,
Jurassic Park, and
The Lost World.
For those who aren't familiar with this
Law & Order franchise,
Criminal Intent tells stories in a different format, focusing on the mind of the criminal and consequently details on how the Major Case Squad uses psychological approaches to solve crimes.
