'Knight Rider' Stars Talk About Their Characters

Last week, we talked about how the critics have been harsh in judging the NBC debuting series, Knight Rider, the remake of the 1982 series of the same name.  A number of BuddyTV readers responded with mixed reactions, but an important fact to point out is that some viewers actually want to see this show regardless of what the television critics say.  Meanwhile, the stars of the show recently shared their thoughts on their characters and the work they put into creating the show.

"It's a lot different [than the movie]," executive producer Gary Scott Thompson explained.  "I think the movie just sort of set the table and bridged the gap between the original series and this series.  That's how we like to look at it.  This is a much faster pace."

With the show in a fast pace, fans are wondering where Deanna Russo’s character Sarah Graiman will stand in the life of lead character Mike Traceur (Justin Bruening).

"We have to save the world and there's not a lot of time for that, but trying to fit that in, having a life and, you know, going on the missions and all of that," Bruening told Fanbolt.  "That's kind of where sometimes the humor comes in and...the sexual tension, and all of that."

Individually, however, Bruening says that his character has quite a lot to deal with on a personal level.  He explains, “One of the new mythologies and one of the storylines to the series is actually Mike's past.  He was in war...he doesn't remember a few years of his life while he was in war.  There are things that come up from his past throughout the series, people that necessarily want to kill him...there's a lot of more elements and...it makes the character a lot more complex.”

As for Russo’s Sarah, she says, “[Sarah]'s definitely got mechanic tendencies and I think she's just trying to prove herself as one of the boys.  So she's been trained to fight but, you know, winds up getting in trouble and has to be saved a couple times.”

Catch Knight Rider every Wednesday at 8pm on NBC.
