On last night's episode of
Kid Nation, one kid got the idea to take something that others could get for free and resell it. Greg went back to his old ways after winning the gold star a few weeks back. Someone lobbied for votes to win the gold star.
Here was one good thing about the episode. Less of Taylor. She's gotten enough screen time and we were introduced to some new citizens of Bonanza City, Nathan and Divad. Nathan and Divad were both hard workers but were portrayed very differently. Nathan was shown as the victim, because Greg wouldn't stop picking on him. Divad was overconfident, feeling she deserved the gold star and tried to bribe other people to cast their vote for her, whether she admitted it or not.
Do some children on the show concern you a little bit? When Jared found out that Divad created a snack shack and was making money off of what should be free food, he flipped out and trashed her stand. Every time Mike is on camera, he's overacting and expressing himself in a strange way, though I can't put my finger on why it's so off-putting. Jared did recognize later on that his actions were uncalled for and expressed remorse. He also made necklaces and ended up getting money of his own to go on a shopping spree. Ah, little entrepreneurs.
Greg went back to being Greg and I have to admit that I was disappointed. I was really hoping that winning the gold star and getting positive feedback from his peers would change him for the better. He immediately began picking on Nathan last night the way he picked on Mike in the beginning. He apologized later to him, but I just wish he'd cut out the bullying. When he's being good, he's a really cool kid.
I'd like to make a request. I'd like Bonanza City to stop giving the gold star to people just because the town feels bad for them. If Nathan has been working hard this entire time, then producers did a nice job of skipping over him the first six episode. I don't think someone deserves $20,000 just because a bully picked on them. If that were the case, then I'm owed a lot of money from my days in middle school thanks to my 8th grade class. I believe Nathan is the third undeserving recipient of the gold star. While we're on it, I hate the gold star. I'd rather that the show just be about kids doing a good thing or having a good learning experience.
Seven episodes have gone by with seven gold stars given out. Who do you feel worked the hardest for it? Vote below and let us know how you feel!
