In Treatment isn't as big and splashy as most HBO dramas. It's doesn't have hot vampires or polygamous Mormons, but what it does have is some of the most interesting characters, acting and writing on TV.

Following psychiatirist Paul Weston, every episode of In Treatment is like a mini-play, showing a single therapy session. With just two actors and 30 minutes, In Treatment offers a very realistic and intense view into these people's lives.

Season 3 premieres tonight at 9pm with the first two half-hours. Like last season, the show will air over two nights, but this year there will be only four installments per week. The second two patients air Tuesdays a 9pm.

Here's a quick preview of the new patients for Paul this season.

Sunil (airs Mondays at 9pm)

Irrfan Khan plays Sunil, a man from India who moves to New York following the death of his wife to stay with his son and daughter-in-law. The cultural differences should prove quite intriguing and complex.

Frances (airs Mondays at 9:30pm)

Played by Debra Winger, Frances is a famous actress who is having trouble getting remembering lines. Older actresses might have trouble finding good roles, but not on In Treatment.

Jesse (airs Tuesdays at 9pm)

The most interesting patients of the past two seasons have been the younger ones, both Mia Wasikowska in season 1 as a suicidal gymnast and Alison Pill in season 2 as a girl with cancer. This season that honor goes to newcomer Dane DeHaan as Jesse, a gay photographer who skips school, sells his prescription drugs and has problems with his adoptive parents.

Adele (airs Tuesdays at 9:30pm)

Adele isn't a patient, she's Paul's new therapist. Played by Oscar nominee and former star of The Wire Amy Ryan, Adele is initially just a source for a prescription for sleeping pills, but Paul quickly finds himself in therapy.
