If the only way
How I Met Your Mother can survive is through stunt casting, then so be it. It's something that, even if fans don't particularly enjoy such gimmicks, we can live with if it keeps one of the great unheralded comedies afloat on the CBS schedule. Comedies, in general, have always employed stunt casting in their repertoires. For some shows, it works remarkably well (see:
30 Rock), for others, not so much.
How I Met Your Mother emerged admirably last season after one of the most egregious and desperate casting moves ever, when they brought in Britney Spears for a couple episodes. Today, it was announced that another famous person will join the cast for an episode in late September, though this person is far more respected and wrinkly (well, that's arguable) than Britney. That person's name is Regis Philbin.
AVAST, MATEY!!! MINOR SPOILERS LIE AHEAD!!!
Regis's episode of
How I Met Your Mother will air on September 29, and it is a hamburger-centric episode. For any other show, describing an episode as “hamburger-centric” probably wouldn't make sense, but it works for
Mother. The story will follow Marshall's quest to track down the restaurant where he ate his first ever New York City burger. There's no word as of yet regarding what role Regis will play, but I'm rooting for “Snooty Maitre'D.” Or maybe he'll play Robin's Canadian father, or perhaps the cuckolded husband of one of Barney's female conquests.
In other
How I Met Your Mother news, TV Guide gave us a few minor spoilers about the new season. In regards to Ted's proposal to Stella, both
Josh Radnor and the
Mother producers have stated that Stella will give a definitive answer - “maybe” is not acceptable. Word is that Stella will have to pass a certain test regarding one of Ted's favorite movies (hint: it involves Kevin Costner and Iowa). Also, Barney will indeed confess his feelings about Robin, but not to Robin or Ted. My guess is Lilly.
What role should Regis play?
