Some years later, he was cast as Jonas in another television movie, Under the Cover, and went on to star in a variety of short films and movies, such as Trick'r Treat, Taming Tammy, Lesser Evil, The Green Chain, Trapped Ashes- Stanley's Girlfriend, Hush, Wildfire 7: The Inferno, Need for Speed: Carbon, Sandra Goes to the Whistler, Go-Go Boy: Prelude, The Winner, Suspicious Circumstances, Clive and Below the Belt.

In 2004, Penikett appeared regularly as Detective Ray Chase in the final season of the crime drama, Cold Squad. In the same year, he was cast in the role of Karl “Helo” Agathon in the re-imagined series, Battlestar Galactica. His additional series credits include Smallville, The L Word, Just Cause, Stargate SG-1, Dark Angel and Glory Days.

Apart from acting, Penikett is also an accomplished kickboxer and has received extensive training in Muay Thai. He said, “I have been interested in the martial arts ever since I was a child, I first studied judo for a number of years and then took up kick boxing after seeing a Muay Thai practitioner in a foreign film.” Among his other interests are snowboarding, soccer, biking, roller-blading, reading and traveling. In describing his personal style, Penikett said, “My style varies so much. I've always had a sporty, casual style with some hip-hop and urban influences. Nothing beats a new pair of kicks and a nice pair of jeans. I appreciate quality and don't ever want to be associated to one style. That's the beauty of clothes and fashion; if you have a sense of style and know what works for you, then you can dress for the mood, occasion and pretty much get away with anything.”
