High School Musical: Zac Efron to Accompany Miley Cyrus in 'Gidget' Remake?
Apparently, Miley Cyrus' little crush on High School Musical star Zac Efron has led to something even bigger.  While she's not exactly making any moves on him, the two have been slated for roles in the upcoming remake of the classic film series Gidget.

Moviehole reports that the Hannah Montana tween sensation will be portraying the role that catapulted Sally Field to fame.  With the movie being a musical comedy, there's no doubt they're going to need Miley Cyrus' pipes to pull it off.  Efron has reportedly been approached to be her leading man, but there hasn't been any confirmation from the actor.

The reboot of Gidget will supposedly be the first for a long line of films, and is about a young girl who discovers a passion for surfing.  Along the way, she ends up falling for a guy on that one fateful summer.

As one of the first "beach movies" back in the day, Gidget was originally a 1959 film starring Sandra Dee.  It became quite a hit, spawning several sequels and TV movies.  The ABC television series with Sally Field in the title role aired in 1965, but was canceled after one season.

Zac Efron will most likely play a modern day version of singer and actor Frankie Avalon (who performed on American Idol last April), though it's something he might not go for.  Given his recent choices in acting gigs like turning down Footloose for more serious roles, it's doubtful he'll jump at the chance for a part in Gidget.

Miley Cyrus might be able to fill in the shoes for the quirky character, even though Zac Efron won't be so interested.  He's certainly busy with other projects, currently filming the 2010 drama The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.

Another actress who has been picked for a role is Brittany Snow, but, like Efron, she hasn't commented on the news.
