The transition from High School Musical to Me and Orson Welles looked incredibly easy for 22-year-old Zac Efron. It seemed as though he breezed through the parts, with the confidence only veteran actors have. But as he admitted himself, this isn't exactly the case.
The promising celebrity talked to MTV News that in taking roles, be it film or TV, there's always a bit of anxiety for him. Efron actually gets nervous before appearing on stage, but he says that's where the fun lies.
During the red carpet premiere of
Me and Orson Welles at New York's Chelsea neighborhood, Zac Efron revealed his fears to the publication. "I definitely get stage fright," he said.
"That's part of the fun. That's what makes it interesting. It's sort of addicting, that feeling. You know you're alive," the star added.
But in case he really finds himself turning into a bundle of nerves before a shoot, he can always take consolation in his celebrity idol. According to
Contact Music, Zac Efron looks up to superstar Leonardo DiCaprio for inspiration. He even wants to emulate the man's whole career.
"I'm re-watching Leo's transition, from my perspective," the
High School Musical actor revealed. "He's the best barometer for me. It's amazing to see actors who have been able to sustain this for so long and keep positive, still focused on the work, still trying to make their best film."
As Zac continues to look for his own career milestones, he wouldn't mind taking on more challenging parts. He even thinks he'd do well as a villain in a James Bond flick.
"I'm a huge James Bond fan. I'd love to be a Bond baddie," Efron said. "I've seen pretty much every Bond film. Sean Connery is my favourite and I really like 'Goldeneye' with Pierce Brosnan."
That's going from a Disney movie to a long-running, million-dollar franchise already. It will surely take guts and talent (plus the right connections) for that to work, but there's no doubt Zac Efron will keep trying.
