We haven't heard much from Olesya Rulin ever since she appeared on High School Musical, other than her stint on the show Greek. But her recurring role there isn't enough for her career to keep thriving. It's only lucky that she managed to land a role in another pilot called Keep Hope Alive.
The FOX comedy is a project from the creator of My Name Is Earl, Greg Garcia. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the new pilot to be a single-camera series which also stars Martha Plimpton and newcomer Lucas Neff.
The story of
Keep Hope Alive focuses on Jimmy, a 25-year-old man who is trying to raise an infant after the mother of his child has ended up on death row. The baby came about in a one-night stand, and this hopeful father is trying his best to support it. That is, with the help of his quirky family.
Martha Plimpton has been cast as the Jimmy's practical mom, who had him when she was just 16. Since then, she never wanted another child. Now that her son's brought a baby to the house, there's going to be quite some problems on the rise.
But if anyone can help Jimmy out, it's Olesya Rulin's character. The
High School Musical alum will be portraying a smart waitress who may just be the perfect woman for him and his daughter. At least, he thinks so.
Keep Hope Alive will be directed by Michael Fresco, known for his work in
My Name is Earl and
Better Off Ted. He's also had a hand in
The Knights of Prosperity and
The O.C. Though we all have to wait to know if this pilot will push through for FOX, a new role is definitely good news for Olesya Rulin. Whether or not she'll be displaying any musical or dancing talents on
Keep Hope Alive is yet to be seen, but for now we can only hope so.
