Next month, when the list of Oscar nominees are announced, don't be surprised if you find High School Musical 3 there.  The film has 11 songs that are eligible for nomination in the Best Original Song category.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, on January 6. Members will then vote to determine which songs should be nominated for Oscars.  Fans would certainly love to see High School Musical 3 stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and others on the red carpet and on the stage performing their favorite songs this coming February.

"Just Getting Started", "The Boys Are Back", "Can I Have This Dance", and "A Night To Remember" are among the songs from the High School Musical 3 soundtrack that can be nominated.  Other contenders include: "The Call" from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, "Down To Earth" from WALL-E, "The Traveling Song" from Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and "I Thought I Lost You" from Bolt.  The songwriters from High School Musical will have serious competition in people like Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Norah Jones, and Peter Gabriel.  However, no other movie comes even close to having 11 songs eligible for nomination.  Repo! The Genetic Opera has the second highest amount, with 3.

In total, 49 songs songs are eligible for nomination.  With High School Musical 3 representing almost 23% of the songs by themselves, it would be surprising if they didn't walk away with at least one nomination.  The official nominations will be announced on January 22 and the 81st Annual Academy Awards are set to take place on February 22 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Will HSM3 grab an Oscar nomination?
