If season 2 taught
Heroes fans anything, it's that a really long patch of bad episodes can occasionally lead to one
Heroes or two good ones. I've been critical of the painfully clunky storytelling in the past few episodes, but the
Heroes team seems to be doing something about it: they got
Seth Green and Breckin Meyer.
As anyone who's ever seen an episode of
Robot Chicken knows, these two are incredibly funny guys who know a whole lot about comic books and geek culture. As a rule, putting Seth Green in something is usually a way to make it better (see the season premiere of
My Name is Earl or his episodes of
Entourage). In that respect, Seth Green is a lot like the acting equivalent of cinnamon.
This Monday's episode, "The Eclipse, Part 1," seems to be when the show finally decides to start moving forward. The first nine episodes of this 13-episode volume were all build up, and now things happen. Team Arthur comes up with a plan to capture Claire, while Team Angela is still busy gathering its troops. In this episode, the eclipse arrives and takes everyone's powers away.
The Petrelli brothers are sent to Haiti to retrieve the Haitian and Matt Parkman is sent after Hiro. He may not know Hiro is his 10-year-old self, but that's where Seth Green and Breckin Meyer come in. As the dudes who work at Sam's Comics, they're in geek heaven when they meet Hiro Nakamura, star of
9th Wonders.
As you can tell from this first quick clip, Green and Meyer instantly recognize Hiro from the comic book. If
Heroes truly wants to make me and many others like this show again, they'll use this as an opportunity to provide some hilarious meta-commentary on the show. Since the
9th Wonders comic books mirror the actions of the series, Green and Meyer's characters know all about what's happened on the show. Hopefully one of them will comment on the boring ancient Japan storyline from last season.
