Nathan has been given the promise of unparalleled, a guaranteed straight shot to the White House by his his Nemesis Linderman, yet Nathan was about to willingly sacrifice his political career by killing the casino magnate in cold blood. When
Heroes returns next week, we will revisit that conversation 'in media res' and learn more shocking details of Linderman's plan, as well as a final sales pitch that will have Nathan's allegiance to
Heroes good guys under question.
There are a lot of threads leading into this revelation. First, is Linderman's power. Linderman is indeed one of the specials, a special with the power to heal. We will see this ability demonstrated very early on in the return of Heroes, ".07%", and it will preface Linderman's final pitch.
At this point, Nathan is on our side of the court, looking at Linderman's plan for what it is: the ramblings of a power obsessed mad man. But Nathan has one huge weak spot, and Linderman knows all about it. Don't forget that Linderman's people tried to run Nathan off the road once. It was during this car chase that Nathan discovered his power to fly when he unexpectedly flew through the moon roof of his car leaving it to careen, wife and all, into a barrier. The accident left Nathan's wife paralyzed, and formed the basis of the shame that Nathan feels about his powers.
So far, Nathan has only used his powers for heroism once: to save Peter from falling to his death. Both other examples have been to basically cover his own butt. Once to get away from H.R.G and the Haitian, and the other incident we already mentioned. Nathan is, for all intent and purpose, more coward than hero. It was his impulse to flee that revealed his power, and ultimately cost his wife the use of her legs.
Linderman is quite aware of all of this and will use it to manipulate Nathan into joining his cause by giving Nathan the opportunity to undo the damage his cowardness caused all those years ago. Linderman's final offer will be to heal Nathan's wife of the crippling paralysis, and Nathan will accept.
Yes this means that Nathan is the first of the Heroes to wind up on the dark side as Tim Kring Promised.
