Hearing about
rumors of NBC pulling the plug on Heroes after its fourth season have triggered a lot of emotions among fans--- with some looking forward to a long overdue cancellation, while others are still hoping for a renewal. But hope is not entirely lost, at least according to castmember Dawn Olivieri, who plays the carnie Lydia on the troubled NBC series.
In an interview with
Digital Spy, the
Heroes actress has somewhat reassured fans that the show isn't likely to get the axe, in spite of rumors that season 4 may be its last.
"Everybody talks about it losing momentum and not being so great in the ratings, but honestly, this show makes so much money for NBC that I don't see it gong anywhere. It's had No.1 DVD sales every year it's been on - internationally - and I don't think it's going anywhere. I think it'll keep going," Olivieri says.
Can DVD sales alone extend
Heroes' life on NBC? It didn't exactly work for
Dollhouse but who knows, a ratings-miracle just might happen when
Heroes returns to its 9 PM timeslot beginning January 11. And considering the rumors about the possible cancellation of
Jay Leno, the network is going to need a lot of scripted and reality programs to fill up the void so maybe there's still a place for the sci-fi drama after all.
Meanwhile, there's another indication that
Heroes may survive. Sendhil Ramamurthy, also known as Mohinder, has been pulled out of the network's upcoming pilot,
Rex Is Not Your Lawyer, giving the role to Jerry O'Connell instead. According to a rep from NBC, Ramamurthy has been replaced because of a scheduling conflict with
Heroes, which was in first position. This means we'll be seeing more of Mohinder if and when
Heroes gets picked up for season 5.
