Celebrities can be fangirls too, but Miley Cyrus
is learning that being famous doesn't make it any easier. During the 2009 Grammy Awards, she tried to get close to one of her favorite bands, Radiohead, but Thom Yorke and his crew refused to meet her backstage. Too bad for her, then.
The Hannah Montana
star said in a recent interview on the Johnjay and Rich radio show that she idolizes Radiohead, but was disappointed at their attitude towards her. Backstage at the Grammys, they wouldn't even allow her to visit their dressing room, even though it was only four rooms away from hers. Of course, Radiohead is notorious for their reticence (and we love them for that), so it wasn't much of a surprise.
“If someone, like, said that, like, 'I would cry if I met them,” Miley Cyrus explained. “I really want to meet them,' I would freaking, like, run and, like, give them the biggest hug in the world because that's cool, you know? But they were like, 'We don't really do that.'”
Saying she was “freakishly obsessed” with the band, the 16-year-old pop star continued by saying: “I had already texted all my friends!” It didn't seem to dawn on Cyrus that the whole incident wasn't so surprising. Just because she's so close to her fans doesn't mean every other band is.
The furious Cyrus added, “They don't meet one little kid who would cry and make their life? That's the reason you do this! The reason that I'm in the business is because I like making people happy and it's, like, I don't get people like [Radiohead].”
Well, Radiohead does have the right to decline invitations from their fans, especially one who claims she's that obsessed. Maybe it's a lesson learned for Miley Cyrus. Let's just hope she doesn't send the Karma Police (sorry, couldn't resist) after them, but they're most likely on Radiohead's side anyway.
