Grey's Anatomy's Isaiah Washington Wins NAACP Award

greys-anatomy-news-2.jpgAfter a string of frazzled intrigues, Grey’s Anatomy bounces back with positive news. Isaiah Washington, cast member of the popular medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, redeems himself from his unpleasant slur as he won Best Actor in a Television Drama at the 38th Annual NAACP Image Awards.

This second win in a row serves as a breather for the highly stressed actor. "The last time I was up here I felt deserving of something," expressed Washington. “This time, I feel extraordinarily privileged…I'm humbled and honored to be recognized by the NAACP."

Previously, his gay slur instantly drew criticism from cast members as well as bosses at ABC and gay-rights advocates. He went into the unidentified rehab center on January 23, 2007, a week after the controversial outburst at the January 15th Golden Globes, which nearly ended his career in the series Grey’s Anatomy where he plays Dr. Preston Xavier Burke. And though other people don’t want to give him credit for his taking responsibility of the issue, not to mention his notable acting performances on the hit show, the award giving body NAACP is kind enough to give credit where credit is due.

The NAACP Image Awards, hosted this year by LL Cool J, gives recognition to the achievement in the field of movies, music, literature and television. Grey’s Anatomy was also named Outstanding Drama Series. In addition, the show is also proud to possess such talents like Chandra Wilson, plays Dr. Miranda Bailey, who won an award for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, as well as series creator Shonda Rhimes who was also honored that night.

Furthermore, it was a shimmering night for the network ABC, which garnered other awards under the show Ugly Betty for Outstanding Comedy, Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Vanessa L. Williams and Writing in a Comedy Series for Silvio Horta.
