Grey's Anatomy begins Season 10 on Thursday, Sept. 26. With exactly two weeks to go until the new season begins, we've got a fresh, new crop of spoilers for you to enjoy. We've got news about Derek and Meredith's maternity leave, Derek's new project and the return of Jackson's mother.
Maternity Leave for Derek and Meredith
When we last saw Meredith, she was barely hanging on to life after delivering her daughter. In the season premiere, mom and baby are doing well and it will be time for the new family to take some well-deserved time off. Trouble is, Derek and Meredith may not enjoy their time away from the hospital as much as they thought.
"They're struggling a bit because they want to get back in the ER," Patrick Dempsey told TV Guide
. "They're just losing their minds and they want to have something else to do. They get stuck just doing dishes and diapers."
Meredith, especially, will have challenges this season as she struggles to be a good mom and a good doctor.
"Meredith is juggling a lot," executive producer Shonda Rhimes told TV Guide
. "She's trying to be a good mom, wife and friend, and this is the year of her attending career in which she should really be trying to make her mark. To me, this is Meredith's lean-in season. She's going to discover whether or not she's interested in being that person who puts her career first."
Meredith will be extremely busy this season, not only juggling motherhood and the hospital, but also being a great friend to someone who really needs it - Callie.
"They have more things in common than they used to, specifically Meredith and Callie, now they're both mothers, so on that level, Meredith feels for Callie and what she's going through," Sara Ramirez told TV Guide
. "There is a moment where Callie confides in Meredith early on. Cristina and Meredith are two people that Callie is close to during this and interestingly enough, feels betrayed by one of them at one point."
Derek Gets Into Brain Mapping
But Meredith won't be the only one busy, her husband has a new agenda for this season. "We're going to get into President Obama's agenda on brain mapping," Patrick Dempsey told The Hollywood Reporter
. "I think that will be fun for Shepard to get into that, it's a fascinating thing. I've been starting to look at the research on that and what they're trying to achieve. I'm excited about that storyline. The writers are really getting into it."
Dempsey even hopes that the new research will take Derek out of Seattle for a little while. "I think it would be fun to see Shepard go to D. C. and be part of the brain mapping," the actor revealed. "At the same time, it is a procedural so we need to see him in the OR. But it would be nice to be doing the brain mapping and then dealing with the political aspect of what they're doing as well and then really allowing people to understand what Obama's agenda is with that and how important it is so we can be informative and entertaining at the same time. I hope we can go in that direction.
Jackson's Mother Returns?
We're using a photo for this bit of intel, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, right? If that's true, then there's a lot to be said about the return of Jackson's mother Catherine Avery in the upcoming season of Grey's Anatomy.
In a tweet
posted by Brisbane Festival and then re-tweeted by Debbie Allen (who plays the Avery matriarch), it looks like the other Dr. Avery will be dusting offer her scrubs to get back into the OR. It's unclear exactly which OR she's working in, but it's probably safe to say that Momma Avery will be making an appearance at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
When you think about it, it makes total sense that Catherine would return. Not only was her son in an explosion, but the man she had a romance with last year was also electrocuted. If that's not a reason to visit the hospital, I don't know what is.
What do you think of the latest crop of Grey's Anatomy spoilers? Do you think Meredith will be able to balance everything on her plate this season?
