Grey's Anatomy opens tonight with some establishing shots of early morning Seattle. Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is practicing medicine on herself in the clinic, and you know that wacky hijinx are going to ensue because the music is all happy and peppy, instead of OMG-I'm-Going-Crazy crazy. In come her troupe of interns, who have been at Seattle Grace long enough to resent having to be assigned to clinic duty (flu shots and enemas) with Izzie instead of cutting people open. Izzie dramatically draws the curtain open, startling the interns in mid-grumble, and glares at the lot of them. Meanwhile, Cristina (Sandra Oh) opens the door to an on-call room and wakes up Major McHottie (Kevin McKidd), who was napping shirtless. They make awkward, but they share a moment when he shows that he notices little things about her. He suggests that she wear her hair up because he likes seeing the back of her neck. After he leaves the room, she rubs the back of her neck with a smile on her face.

Lexie (Chyler Leigh) is having a hard time keeping her new relationship with Mark a secret. Callie (Sara Ramirez), who has a smashing new haircut with bangs, is the only other person who knows (except for Sadie), so Lexie tries to talk about how much she likes Mark to her, but Callie shuts her down immediate with: "Alone people don't want to hear about the together people, OK? Even if the alone people are alone by choice. It's sort of mean. It's sort of like bringing a six-pack to an AA meeting."

In Meredith's Mommy Issues news, Mer asks Cristina to pre-read her mother's ninth diary for her because this is the one in which is written about Ellis' affair with the chief. As in Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). Cristina concedes that Meredith will go blind reading about that, so she takes the diary.

Meanwhile, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) is carrying on through the day with the engagement ring in his pocket. He's ready to propose to Meredith, but he has to find the right time because she spooks too easily. Mark (Eric Dane) jovially warns him not to play with guns. And in a kind of hilarious moment, Major McHottie asks Mark into an exam room to see if his pee-pee is alright after Lexie broke it last time. They step into the room and about a nanosecond later, they walk out, his noodle apparently in tip-top shape. Major tells McSteamy to use it wisely.

Lexie is with Meredith today, and their patient is a man whose pregnant wife accidentally ran him over with the car. She gets faint and her blood pressure rises while they are in the examining room, which means that you know something is going to happen to her later. Meredith makes an off-hand comment to Derek about the children that they'll have together in the future, which makes him very happy.
