Dr. Meredith Grey is an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital. Specializing in surgery, Meredith has good medical instincts when it comes to dealing with patients. Though intelligent, she has the tendency to be disoriented especially when it comes to the matters of the heart. Her upbeat personality often results to her being a voluntary advice provider. She does not care for Chinese food at all, but loves strawberry ice cream. She shares a home with her fellow interns and best friends, Isobel “Izzie” Stevens and George O’ Malley.
Like the other interns, Meredith often finds herself in the mercy of her complicated love life. From her passionate and painful love affair with neurosurgeon Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, to her sweet but short-lived relationship with veterinarian, Dr. Finn, to her disastrous one night-stand with her fellow intern and housemate, George O’Malley, and ultimately back to the arms of her true love, Derek, Meredith has definitely had her fair share of heartbreaks. Fortunately, her friends and fellow interns are always there to make sure she has a shoulder to lean on.
Meredith’s personal life is no less complicated. She has spent her entire life trying to gain the approval of her mother, Ellis Grey, a renowned surgeon, all the while attempting to come to grips with her absentee father, Thatcher Grey. She has carried her issues until adulthood, but finally received some form of affirmation from her mother when they both found themselves in a place between life and death. Consequently, when Ellis died after a long bout with Alzheimer’s, Meredith was able to let go peacefully and with little regret.
As for her father, she continued to evade him, especially after she found out that she has several younger siblings, all whom seem to make her father happy in a way she felt she never could. However, her mother’s death prompted her to reconnect with her estranged father and stepmother, and for the first time in her life, began to feel the wounds healing.
