Who would have thought there'd come a time on Gossip Girl
when Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) would be the most secure and adult couple? They aren't countering a betrayal with another betrayal like Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Rufus (Michael Settle); or dragging normal, well-adjusted people into their crazy thing, like Dan (Penn Badgley) and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr); or, well, selling drugs like Jenny (Taylor Momsen).Catch: Taylor Momsen: Jenny Never Fit in on 'Gossip Girl'
Anyway, tonight's episode of Gossip Girl
started out with Serena (Blake Lively) and Nate (Chace Crawford) making out in the kitchen with whipped cream and strawberries, with Blair, not to be outdone, wanting them to know that she's having a nice time herself - while flipping through a fashion magazine and moaning, "Oh Chuck, yeah right there" again and again.
Which brings us to the meat of the episode: Chuck finally met her mother. Not that it was a singularly easy affair. As messed up as Chuck is, he went to great lengths to stalk Elizabeth Fisher but when he finally confirmed that she was indeed the Mother Chucker, as it were, he decided he'd rather have a drink than spend time catching up.
But thanks to S not being able to mind her own business, Elizabeth had another chance to scale the mighty Chuck Wall, only to be rebuked anew, this time via a check and the subtext that she's nothing but a gold-digging wh-re.
(A little insight: just when we thought Serena was actually concerned about someone else's happiness, she somehow made the whole Chuck's mom fiasco about herself again, eventually realizing that her own dad doesn't want to be found. Good job, S.)
Back to Chuck, who revealed to Blair that he actually wanted her mom to do well on the Chuck Check Test (he slaps you with a check for god knows how much and you choose, money or getting to know your son), and that as soon as he dished out that check, he wanted her to not take it / give it back.
But all's well that ends well. He realized that he wanted to know about his mom, after all. Blair as the dutiful girlfriend initially said she wanted Chuck to be happy, which pretty much said everything on how far she'd gone from her Queen Bee days. She realized that never mind back-handed tricks and complicated schemes, sometimes, honesty actually works.
Catch: Gossip Girl: Guess Who's Back (and Blonde)
To top it all off, at the end of the episode, Chuck actually smiled! These two can show the other couples on Gossip Girl
a thing or two about growing up. For one, don't run off with a drug pusher or leave your scarf on your sort of mistress's room, but that's why we're tuning in next week on Gossip Girl
