The third season of Glee premieres Tuesday at 8pm on FOX, and to prepare for it co-creator Ryan Murphy spoke to reporters Thursday night and revealed what roles the contestants from The Glee Project will play. The Oxygen reality competition had two winners, Damian McGinty and Samuel Larsen, who will both have seven-episode guest arcs in season 3, while runners-up Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell will each appear for at least two episodes.

Glee is available on Amazon Prime.

Here's what Murphy said about the four new characters for Glee season 3.

Damian: We already know he'll first appear in the fourth episode as Rory, a foreign exchange student from Ireland who comes to McKinley as a sophomore and lives with Brittany. As you probably guessed, she thinks he's a leprechaun with magical powers. Wouldn't it be weird if he really DID have magical powers? That could take Glee in a totally different direction.

Samuel: He won't appear until later (episode 10 or 11) and all Murphy said is that he will most likely be one of Puck's relatives. That sounds perfect since both are rebellious heartthrobs, but it gets a bit confusing when you remember that Samuel has Christian tattoos and Murphy frequently said he wanted to write a different kind of Christian character. The only problem is that Puck is Jewish, though I suppose Samuel's character might come from a Christian side of his family.

As I see it, there are two ways for this story to go. The two could be very close and take McKinley by storm, seducing women left and right while serving as each other's wingman. Or they might be bitter rivals, going after the same girl (Quinn perhaps?) and igniting a family Holy War.

Lindsay: The role she's playing (the leader of a rival glee club) was already written and Murphy said they just expanded it a bit when they decided to cast Lindsey in the role. She's already filmed her first episode (she appears in the season 3 premiere) and will most likely be returning when New Directions competes at Sectionals. Murphy promises a good scene where Lindsay's character "gets in Lea's face," meaning she'll be a strong Rachel Berry antagonist.

Alex: Murphy didn't reveal much about Alex's role, only saying that he "will also be sued sort of like Lindsay," meaning he'll be the star of one of the rival glee clubs New Directions faces at a competition. He won't show up until later in the season.

Glee season 3 begins Tuesday, September 20 at 8pm on FOX.
