Girlfriends is a sitcom created by Mara Brock Akil which focuses on the lives of successful African American women living in Los Angeles, California. The show tackles issues about family, friends, relationships, and most especially the challenges of women nowadays.  


The comedy-drama show Girlfriends courageously features universal issues that interest all types of women. Recovering from a breakup or divorce, balancing friendships, and dealing with a new marriage are just some of the recurring themes showcased on the series. The empowering cast includes Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross), Maya Wilkes (Golden Brooks), Lynn Searcy (Persia White), and William Dent (Reggie Hayes).
