Jay Mohr is a stand-up comedian and author who was born on August 23, 1970 in Verona, New Jersey. He has two sisters named Virginia and Julia, along with one son named Jackson, whom he fathered during his six-year marriage to former model Nicole Chamberlain. Mohr performed as a featured player for Saturday Night Live from 1993-1995. Among the other television productions he has worked on are The Jeff Foxworthy Show and Last Comic Standing. Mohr has acted in feature films such as Jerry Maguire, Pay It Forward, and The Adventures of Pluto Nash. He also served as the Master of Ceremonies for the 2007 gaming convention Blizzcon.

Rick Payne is portrayed by Jay Mohr in the CBS fantasy drama series Ghost Whisperer. He is a professor who teaches at Rockland University and is married to Kate, and they reside in Grandview. Melinda Gordon first encounters him a class teaching about the occult and paranormal myths at the university. She then seeks knowledge from him and asks him about light spirits and dark spirits, as well as help in finding out who or what “Wide Brim” is. He often explains to Melinda about various curses and myths, helping her to confront the supernatural with his extensive store of knowledge.
