Ghost Whisperer: Preview of Tonight's Episode, Plus Jennifer Love Hewitt Calls Off Engagement

After Melinda tried to help a confused ghost come to terms with the realities of her marriage on the last episode of
Ghost Whisperer, she'll be assisting a family in turmoil following a freak accident when the paranormal drama returns tonight at 8pm ET/PT on CBS.
"Life on the Line," the 11th episode of the fourth season of
Ghost Whisperer, follows Melinda (
Jennifer Love Hewitt) as she tries to bring healing to a family suffering in the aftermath of a freak accident of their 14-year-old boy. Melinda thinks that the ghost calls 911 for help but eventually learns that he wants his divorced parents and estranged brother to reunite so that they can finally discuss the cause of his death.
Meanwhile, Delia (
Camryn Manheim) experiences her first haunting and finds out why sometimes it's easier to be a skeptic than a believer. As for Jim (
David Conrad), who assists Melinda in the case, he may have his memory back.
Joining the cast of
Ghost Whisperer on tonight's episode is Sharon Lawrence (
NYPD Blue), who guest stars as the mother of the ghost.
In other news, it has been reported that Hewitt and fiancé Ross McCall have ended their 13-month engagement. According to
People, the couple broke up over the holidays.
The
Ghost Whisperer star, 29, got engaged to the Scottish actor, 32, in November 2007 after dating for two years. At the time, Hewitt said she was trying to lose weight for her upcoming wedding, not because of the now-famous "pudgy beach pictures" she had defended earlier in the year.
"I'm getting ready to turn 30 and get married and all those things," Hewitt told
People. "This year was my year to try to glow from within and feel better."
But all those pounds she lost may have been for naught.
At present, Hewitt is keeping herself busy with work on the set of her hit show but a source says the actress is "having a tough time" in the wake of her breakup. On the other hand, skipping work has never been an option for the actress.
"She is always so professional," the source said. "She would never even think to miss a day of work because of personal problems."
