Tamlyn Tomita will soon be treading the fictional town of Port Charles. The 42-year-old actress, who was previously chosen by
People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world, has just landed a recurring role on
General Hospital.
Not much has been revealed about Tomita's storyline on
General Hospital. But she is expected to portray the role of Giselle, the rival magazine editor that will serve as foil to Kate Howard, played by
Megan Ward, and her new magazine
Crimson. Tomita will be making her
General Hospital debut on May 16.
Though this is Tomita's first appearance on
General Hospital, she is no stranger to world of soaps. In fact, she is known for her role as Lily Murakami on the daytime series
Santa Barbara.
In 1986, Tomita made her acting debut in
The Karate Kid II, playing Ralph Macchio's love interest. This was followed by many appearances in Hollywood films and television series, including roles in
Vietnam, Texas,
Hiroshima: Out of the Ashes,
Raven: Return of the Black Dragons,
The Joy Luck Club and
Babylon 5: The Gathering, just to name a few.
After landing several guest roles, Tomita soon acquired more substantial parts on shows like
The Burning Zone in which she played Dr. Kimberly Shiroma. She was also cast on
Jag as Lt. Commander
Tracy Manetti and as Jenny Dodge on the FOX hit series
24. Most recently, she appeared on
Stargate SG-1,
Stargate Atlantis,
Eureka and
Women's Murder Club, as well as the American version of the horror flick
The Eye.
Meanwhile,
General Hospital isn't Tomita's only upcoming acting gig. She is also slated to appear on the upcoming TV feature
Two Sisters, along side
Lost's
Yunjin Kim, and the comedy film
Why Am I Doing This?, which will hit theaters in 2009.
