You've probably heard the news about Spider-Man star James Franco joining the cast of General Hospital for some time now. As ridiculous as it sounds, we're here to tell you that this is not an elaborate hoax and we even have his soap debut photo to prove it!

Franco is slated to appear on the long-running ABC daytime series for two months beginning November 20, which coincides with November sweeps. Without doubt, Franco's addition is expected to bring in more viewers to General Hospital, which is struggling to keep ratings high these days.

Although the General Hospital crew is being tight-lipped about the particulars of Franco's role, he'll play a mysterious man who comes to Port Charles, the fictional town that is over run by mobsters and rival families. He comes with some unfinished business and will supposedly be the "worst nightmare" for Jason Morgan, a mob crook character who's played by Emmy winner Steve Burton. Coincidentally or not, Franco and Burton share a manager.

Since playing Daniel Desario on the late '90s cult favorite Freaks and Geeks, Franco has moved on to major roles in films including the top-grossing Spider-Man franchise, Pineapple Express, and the Oscar-winner Milk. He has also been cast in several upcoming movies such as Howl, In Praise of Shadows, Date Night and Your Highness, all of which are set to hit theaters next year.

By and large, daytime TV is the place where novice actors start out their careers, hoping to get more exposure and land more gigs preferably in the big screen, and not the other way around. So why on earth would Franco join General Hospital? Well, your guess is as good as ours.
