The excitement for Game of Thrones season 3 is heating up as March 31 slowly approaches, and a new video from HBO takes fans behind the scenes to understand the themes.

The new video features interviews with new and returning stars as well as the executive producers of Game of Thrones promising dramatic shifts in power, new plots and more deaths.

Executive producer David Benioff describes this as the "rise and fall season" because "There are so many characters who come into the season with power of some kind who lose everything and other characters who enter with almost nothing and achieve great power."

New star Diana Rigg, who plays Margaery Tyrell's grandmother Olenna, promises "one or two bold scenes" followed by a knowing laugh that suggests she might be a far more dangerous and extreme version of Maggie Smith's Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey.

Also new to Game of Thrones is Ciaran Hinds as Mance Rayder, the much-talked-about King Beyond the Wall, who let's us know we'll be seeing "fantasy and drama and a bit of butchery."

Finally, EP D.B. Weiss tells us that season 3 will have "tremendous reversals of fortune" and that we'll be "pleasantly surprised and horrified in equal measure."

Check out the new promo for yourself.

Game of Thrones season 3 premieres Sunday, March 31 at 9pm on HBO.
