'Friends' Movie in the Works?

FriendsEver since the phenomenal Friends series went off air in 2004, there have been persistent rumors, valid or otherwise, that the next time we see Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Chandler, Monica, and Joey, it will be on the big screen.  However, none had been stronger than those that have surfaced in light of the Sex and the City film's stunning success, with around $130 million in domestic earnings alone.

True enough, several sources have reported that the timeline for this potentially huge movie event can be as close as in 18 months' time, and rumor has it that each of the six main cast member - Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox-Arquette, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matthew Perry -  is due to get at the very least $19 million for reprising their roles.

Aniston, as supposedly the biggest product of the Friends phenomenon, is reportedly closely looking at what the Sex and the City movie did to Sarah Jessica Parker and can't help but compare herself to her.  Once believed to be too famous to reprise her role as Rachel, Aniston is now supposedly spearheading this grand move to make this movie a reality.

"The box office success of Sex and the City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right," says an insider source.  “Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courtney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.  What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again.  But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again."

Starting off in 1994 as a humble series, Friends became a huge television hit, going on to win six Emmy Awards, its 2004 finale watched by around 50 million viewers.
