Thank God it wasn't Karen. I knew it would be Brian, it had to be the one who hates Nick.
Nick tells the elder Darlings. Tripp (
Donald Sutherland) wants to let his son pay the price, while Letitia (
Jill Clayburgh) is fighting to use their power and money to help their son. Letitia seems upset that Tripp is letting Brian go to jail. Nick goes to bail Brian out of jail and that night, Juliet (
Samaire Armstrong) finally comes back home for a nice family dinner. Nick talks to Brian's baby momma, and then he arrives at the Darling mansion to interrogate Letitia about her role in the charges against Brian suddenly being dropped. Nick is suspicious and Letitia confesses to him that BRIAN IS HIS BROTHER! Awesome.
At home, Nick tells his wife Lisa (
Zoe McLellan), and she looks at the bright side: it could've been Karen. Nick is torn, because he hates the Darlings, but needs their money to build a $400 million pediatric AIDS center. Meanwhile, Letitia sits Brian down and tells him the truth as well. He blames her for pushing him away. He asks how long Tripp has known, refusing to call him dad. He tosses his mom out. Basically, this entire storyline serves as a perfect Emmy tape for Clayburgh, who is extraordinary throughout.
Nick arrives to talk to Tripp, and sees Brian walking out, who doesn't want to hear a word about this. Tripp and Nick have an argument about who knew what when and why they didn't tell each other what they knew when they knew it. Nick claims Tripp owes him the truth because of what the Darlings took from him, namely a normal childhood with a mother and father. Tripp slams the door shut.
Throughout the episode, we also get flashbacks informing us about Letitia's affair with Nick's dad, Dutch. It's six months ago and Letitia greets Dutch on the roof. They make out to celebrate his birthday. He regrets the mistakes he's made with his son, and Letitia confesses that Nick is not his only child. In the next flashback, Dutch is storming off, upset about her deception. He needs to get away from the Darlings to save himself. The third flashback shows Dutch drunk waiting on Nick's stoop. He apologizes to his son for essentially ruining his life by aligning with the Darlings. Nick has no interest in talking to his drunk dad, who tries to tell him the truth, but Nick doesn't want to hear it. Dutch gives his son his grandfather's watch and apologizes one last time. Nick accepts the watch, but not the apology.
After reflection, Nick finds Brian in the church, praying. Nick tries to give him the watch, and Brian vows that nothing will change between them and they'll never be family. Nick calls him out on being mean, and Brian agrees that he hates Nick. Still, Brian asks his newfound brother to sit down, then Brian accepts the watch. Later, Reverend Brian says goodbye to his son, and before the sweet Brian Jr. goes to Brazil with his mom, the Reverend gives him the watch, which came from his father. Aww, Reverend Brian is amazing!
Patrick (William Baldwin) spends the episode recuperating in the hospital, where his wife Ellen apologizes for shooting him. Ellen has a change of heart, and forces him to dump Carmelita or she'll leave him, effectively ending his Senate run. Karen (
Natalie Zea) pays a visit to her brother to get his signatiure on some documents. Simon Elder (Blair Underwood) stops by as well, and Karen once again puts her flirt on. Simon takes the bait, and asks if she'd like to "merge" her resources with his. She's playful the whole time. Later, Carmelita is visiting Patrick in the hospital, and while she agrees to stop seeing him, he can't bring himself to end it because he truly loves her.
On Simon and Karen's date, he talks about his ex-wife who he has a deep connection with. She's a princess from Ghana. Given that we already know she'll be played by Gina Torres, that is easy to believe. The next morning, Karen wakes up. In Simon's bed! He invites her to Kenya where he's opening a clinic. He promises not to tell Tripp about this arrangement.
Jeremy (
Seth Gabel) starts this episode
by waking up in Sofia's apartment, and she is tired of never going to his place. Jeremy runs over to Nick's house and asks Lisa if he can use their house to pose as his "poor person" home. He ultimately finds a a place and it's trashy. When he brings Sofia over, she's rightfully disgusted, but not by the poorness, but his apparent lack of passion to improve.
Later, he rushes over to Nick's house to talk to Lisa again. He told Sofia he's a struggling artist and needs her gallery connections to give him some paintings to pose as his own. Lisa takes him on a tour of her gallery, and Jeremy is thoroughly incompetent when it comes to art. He settles on wanting to take some pictures of naked people, which she calls "nudes." Jeremy is insane. Jeremy shows off his paintings the next day to Sofia, crowing about his "mad skill-illz." Se wants him to paint her in the nude, so he covers by just having sex with her. Jeremy goes back to Lisa for help, and he wants to take a naked picture of Sofia to give to the artist so he can do a painting. Lisa agrees, almost too quickly.
On the next episode of Dirty Sexy Money: it's a naughty Christmas episode. Nick finds out about Simon and Karen, and if my eyes did not deceive me, Jeremy kisses Lisa!
