Samaire Armstrong, who plays a character with substance abuse issues on
Dirty Sexy Money, has checked into an outpatient facility, without citing any specific reason for the admission. A representative for the actress released a statement on Friday, October 12.
"Samaire Armstrong decided to enter an outpatient facility to deal with some personal issues in a therapeutic atmosphere and is doing very well," the representative said. "She continues to work on her show and will be completing her treatment in a matter of weeks.”
According to
Us magazine, the 26-year-old actress will miss the taping of only one episode of
Dirty Sexy Money, although ABC and Armstrong's representative have yet to confirm this information.
Meanwhile, sources for
TV Guide have stated that Armstrong's decision to receive outpatient treatment was most likely fueled by “extreme eating disorders” and “serious cutting.”
These statements, on the other hand, have been debunked by the actress' representative, who told
TV Guide, "The only thing we will say is that she does not have an extreme eating disorder or a cutting problem."
TV Guide's source also said that Samaire Armstrong, also known for her roles on
The O.C. and
Entourage, “has been an emotional wreck for years,” though the source pointed out that the actress does not take drugs.
“In the years I have known her, I have never seen or heard about her taking or doing drugs,” the source told TV Guide. “She rarely even drank. She was never that drunk girl.”
Armstrong's close friend and former actor, Ryan Fisher, has also defended the actress against reports that she has been difficult on the set of
Dirty Sexy Money.
“[I] never heard of her having any problems on any of the shows she was on. Everyone has always liked her,” Fisher said. “She loved being on the
O.C. and said she was having a great time.”
